Barcelona moved to the top of the table after a 4-1 away win at Malaga with Xavi grabbing two. Pep Guardiola’s men have now scored 16 goals in four league games.
Villarreal are just a point behind them in second after they too recorded a 4-1 away win at Bilbao with Giuseppe Rossi and Robert Pires on the score-sheet.
Real Madrid lie in third after Raul’s opener was cancelled out by a late strike from Pablo Piatti meaning they had to settle for a point away at Almeria.
Valencia surprisingly lost 4-2 at home to struggling Racing Santander while a Sergio Aguero double gave Atletico their first win in five against Mallorca.
Osasuna’s sorry season continued as they still couldn’t record a win as they went down 1-0 away at Espanyol.
Serie A
AC Milan went top of the table after a win over Napoli at the San Siro thanks to a late own goal while rivals Inter surrended a two-goal lead against bottom side Reggina only for Ivan Cordoba to score a 87th minute winner.
Udinese sit between the two Milan clubs in second despite being held 2-2 at home to Genoa. Roma’s dismal season continued as they lost 2-0 away at Juventus with Alex Del Piero scoring a stunning free-kick. Luciano Spalletti’s side have lost their last four league games.
Lazio remain just three points off the pace in fifth with a 1-0 win at home to Catania while Sampdoria claimed their second win of the season a week after securing their first victory beating Torino 1-0.
Bundesliga
Surprise leaders Hoffenheim regained top spot with a 4-1 win over Karlsruhe who have lost five in a row and sit just one point above the relegation places.
Bayer Leverkusen stay just a point behind the leaders after they defeated Wolfsburg 2-0 at home while Bayern Munich sit third after a 3-1 home win against Arminia Bielefeld.
Ligue 1
Lyon stretched their lead at the top to four points after they defeated Le Mans 2-0 with Karim Benzema opening the scoring.
Challengers Bordeaux slipped up away at 15th place Nancy losing 1-0 while Marseille move up to second after they condemned St Etienne to their fourth straight defeat leaving them just one place above relegation zone.
Eredivisie
Two points separate the top six with AZ Alkmaar, Ajax and NAC Breda leading the way on 19 points. Ajax secured their third win in a row beating Twente 2-0 away while NAC beat fellow high flyers FC Groningen 1-0 at home.
AZ remain top despite a with Heerenveen despite drawing 3-3 while PSV beat Willem II 2-0 to move to fourth. Meanwhile Feyenoord picked up a much needed win defeating fellow strugglers Roda 4-0 away to climb to 13th.

In Portugal, Porto slipped to fifth after losing 1-0 away at Naval Primeiro. Leixoes Matosinhos beat Pacos de Ferreira 2-1 at home to remain top a point ahead of Benfica in second after they defeated Vitoria Guimaraes 2-1.
Trabzonspor stay top in Turkey after a 4-0 away win over Istanbul BB. Meanwhile in Greece Olympiakos continue to set the pace after beating Ergotelis Heraklion 2-0.
