Wiese fit again, Almeida misses training

The mood in training at Werder Bremen was understandably downbeat on Wednesday in the wake of the team's 2-0 home loss to Leverkusen.

“That defeat was a big disappointment to us”, captain Frank Baumann admitted. All that matters now, though, is getting back on the rails in time for Saturday's game against Hertha BSC.

On the plus side, Tim Wiese returned to full first squad training on Wednesday. The goalkeeper is back from a thigh muscle fibre tear and hopeful of being available again for the weekend.

Almeida ill

“The muscle fibre is almost fully repaired. I feel fit and reckon I'll be able to play on Saturday”, the 26-year-old German international said. Claudio Pizarro, Diego, Clemens Fritz remian doubful to start, and Torsten Frings, Hugo Almeida and Per Mertesacker now all fall into that category as well.

“Hugo couldn't train today due to illness. Torsten aggravated a muscle in the game yesterday, so we'll have to wait until Saturday to see how that goes. He didn't train today but that was a purely precautionary measure. Per took a knock on the hip against Leverkusen”, coach Thgomas Schaaf explained, adding that he was expecting at least some of those on the list to be fit to face Hertha.
