Although Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger last week said he wished the fans at the Emirates would express their support more vociferously, Inter Milan middfielder Patrick Vieira recalls his time at Arsenal - and his rapport with the club’s fans - with great affection.
Vieira reckons the Arsenal crowd do a good job of supporting the team.
The Frenchman was a Gunner for nine years, and captained the North London to some memorable triumphs. He became a hero to the fans at Highbury, the club’s famous old ground.
And he regards English supporters as among the most passionate in the world.
“What I love about the English fans is that they always remember what you give to the club,” Vieira told The Sun.
“I’m sure if after 15, 20 years, I go back to Arsenal, they will remember the nine years I spent there, so that’s why Arsenal will always be a special club for me.
“When you have 50,000 people singing ?Vieira, woa-oh-oh-oh, he comes from Senegal, he plays for Arsenal?… it’s fantastic!?
