Beckham confirms Milan talks

Beckham: In talks

David Beckham has confirmed that he is holding talks with AC Milan about a move to Italy in January.

The Los Angeles Galaxy star has denied making any comments about the possible move before now, but he has admitted that he is now in discussions with the Italian giants.

Milan are ready to take Beckham on a short-term loan deal in January during the MLS off-season, which lasts until March.

“Although nothing is confirmed at present, we can confirm that talks are taking place with Milan with regard to a short-term loan move at the start of next year,” said a statement released on Beckham’s official website.

“David very much remains a Galaxy player, and he will be in Los Angeles for the start of the 2009 MLS season.”

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena has already questioned the move, but Beckham is keen to maintain his place in the England squad and knows he cannot afford to be without regular football for up to four months.

Backing

Meanwhile, current Milan stars Andriy Shevchenko and Filippo Inzaghi have welcomed the news that Beckham is poised to join the club.

Shevchenko, who returned to Milan this summer after a disappointing spell with Chelsea, said: “We would all be happy if he arrives and we would welcome him with open arms.

“He is a great professional and he would come to play at a high level, which is clearly a sign that he wants to be considered for the national team.”

Former Italy international Inzaghi added: “I would really like it if Beckham came to give us a hand to win. He will certainly get a big welcome.”
