United have first-hand experience of Nakamura’s expertise with set pieces, as the Japanese playmaker scored against them twice from such situations during the 2006-07 campaign.
“We are expecting a very difficult match and will have to ensure Nakamura does not get free-kicks around the box,” Fletcher told the Daily Express. “He can punish teams from a dead-ball situation.”
Nakamura’s brilliance was vital in Celtic’s progression to the knockout rounds both last season and the season prior, but the Scottish giants showed in their confrontations with the Red Devils that they were a competitive unit on the European stage and not just a one-man show.
“They proved just how difficult they can be in their last game against us,” Fletcher added. “Celtic beat us 1-0 at Parkhead in 2006 so we know all about their dangers.
“They also pushed us very hard in the game at Old Trafford, although we managed to edge it 3-2.”
With the likes of Scott McDonald and Aiden McGeady also in Gordon Strachan’s ranks, the Bhoys may well fancy themselves at Old Trafford this week given their recent record.
But while Fletcher is wary of his opponents, he added: “Manchester United are rightly expected to win every match, especially at home, and this one will be no different.”
