1899 Hoffenheim move to the top of the Bundesliga after beating Frankfurt at home thanks to a brace from Demba Ba.
Promoted Hoffenheim ended Saturday of matchday 7 top of the Bundesliga thanks to a 2-1 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Ralf Rangnick's men secured their fourth victory of the season with a double from Senegalese striker Demba Ba (47., 71.), with Markus Steinhöfer (66.) briefly getting Frankfurt back on level terms.
Friedhelm Funkel's troops remain second from bottom of the table, still seeking their first league win of the campaign.
Pacy contest
The crowd in the Carl-Benz-Stadion in Mannheim were treated to a fast-moving contest between two evenly-matched sides at the outset. Frankfurt in particular, still missing a handful of regulars due to injury, were moving the ball around more confidently than their standing in the table would have suggested.
Midway through the first half, however, the hosts began to assert their superiority. Vedad Ibisevic missed a good chance in the 21st minute, and Ba forced Eintracht keeper Oka Nikolov into action four minutes before the break.
Ibertsberger rescues victory
Ba found his scoring boots minutes after the restart and Chinedu Obasi squandered a chance to make it two just shy of the hour mark, failing to find a way past Nikolov when clean through.
Steinhöfer looked to have punished Hoffenheim's careless finishing when he levelled for Frankfurt soon afterwards, but just five minutes later Ba put the home side back in front.
Eintracht battled for all they were worth to get back into it again though, and 1899 in the end had a spectacular headed clearance off the line by Andreas Ibertsberger to thank for the win.
