Trez - Op will extend career

Trezeguet: To be free from pain

David Trezeguet expects to be sidelined for four months, but believes knee surgery will prolong his career.

The Juventus striker is to undergo an operation to fix a lingering knee problem and is unlikely to return before the end of the year.

However, after seeing Brazilian ace Ronaldo struck down by knee injuries in the past, Trezeguet is keen not to suffer the same fate.

The Frenchman is hoping that resolving the issue now will add several more seasons to his playing career.

No risk

“We thought about the surgery for some time,” Trezeguet told L’Equipe. “That was the thing to make me cured.

“Of course, I could have waited a little longer, but I would have taken a risk of suffering a broken patella like Ronaldo experienced.

“I prefer to tell myself that by acting that way I will prolong my football career for five or six more years.

“There is no risk for me to not be able to find my best level again. The goal of that little surgery is to make the pain disappear and to be able to go on playing for several years. I will cure myself very well.

“Four months is not so long. I try to remain positive. I will be back in the team in 2009, I hope with great matches to play - Champions League, national league, Italian Cup.”
