Hard-fought win for Schalke

Thanks to the efforts of Jefferson Farfan, Schalke have moved to the top of the Bundesliga standings - at least until Sunday.

The Peruvian striker was the outstanding performer in S04's 1-0 (1-0) victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, and was instrumental in the Partick Ochs own-goal (41.) which eventually separated the two sides.

The “Royal Blues” made it eleven league games without defeat all-told, while the loss mires Frankfurt even further down in the table.

Chris sees red

The home side played well in the first half but were lacking in penetration where it mattered most. Farfan hit the bar from a free kick (14.) and Frankfurt keeper Oka Nikolov made good saves from Rafinha (24.) and Ivan Rakitic (42.).

In the 34th minute Frankfurt were reduced to ten men when Chris was given a straight red for elbowing Heiko Westermann.

Seven minutes later the deadlock was broken, Ochs turning the ball into his own net in a mistimed challenge on Farfan.

Schalke shifted down a gear in the second half despite being a man up, happy to protect their lead against an Eintracht side who could make next to no impact on the home goal themselves.
