Chiellini: Injury comeback
Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini is hoping to make his comeback from injury in next week’s Champions League clash against Zenit St Petersburg.
The Italy international, who shone in a disappointing Euro 2008 campaign by the Azzurri, was expected to be out for a month after injuring his knee last month.
But the 24-year-old has told Juve coach Claudio Ranieri hewill be fit for next week’s European clash and he could even feature in Sunday’s Serie A game at home to Udinese.
“I hope to be on the field against Zenit,” Chiellini said. “Who wouldn’t want to play in such a match?
Speedy progress
“My knee is clearly much better. I’m fit and ready. The coach will decide if he will use me on Sunday and if so, for how long.”
Juve are set to battle it out with Real Madrid and UEFA Cup holders Zenit to qualify for the knock-out stage, with Belarussian qualifiers BATE Borisov making up Group H.
Ranieri’s men opened their Serie A campaign with a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina 10 days ago.
