Not content with snapping up Marcell Jansen and Alex Silva on Wednesday, Hamburger SV are looking to complete a third big-name signing.
As HSV press spokesman Jörn Wolf confirmed on the N24 news channel on Thursday, the club also have much sought-after midfielder Thiago Neves in their sights.
Speaking on sports channel DSF later, president Bernd Hoffmann expanded, “He is certainly a player we are interested in having, and negotiations are at an advanced stage. I'm pretty confident about it.”
Stepanek on loan
Alongside definitive Hamburg new boy Alex Silva, Neves helped Brazil to the bronze medal at the Olympic tournament in Beijing. However, he was red carded as his team went down 3-0 to eventual winners Argentina in the semi-final.
HSV have meanwhile announced that they have farmed Miroslav Stepanek out on loan for the season to SV Superfund Kapfenberg. The 18-year-old Czech U-19 international joined Hamburg in 2006 and signed on as a professional at the club in May 2008.
