The Spaniard was struck down with a calf injury before joining the Villans from Rangers earlier this month, and has yet to make an appearance for the midlands side.
Cuellar missed the early part of Rangers’ SPL season and also missed their Champions League humiliation at the hands of Kaunas.
Had the 26-year-old played in that game, he would have been ineligible for Villa’s UEFA Cup journey.
Since making the £7.8million move from north of the border, Cuellar has watched on as his new team-mates shipped five goals in their opening two Premier League fixtures, including three en-route to a loss at newly promoted Stoke City last weekend.
However, manager Martin O’Neill is optimistic that the ex-Osasuna man can shake off the effects of his knock, and line out for his new side this Sunday after returning to full training this week.
O’Neill told the press: “Carlos is doing well. He has been training with us over the last two or three days.”
