Shevchenko: Lacking confidence
Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari insists Andriy Shevchenko is part of his plans after a return to AC Milan fell through.
Milan have expressed a desire to re-sign Shevchenko, who moved to Stamford Bridge from the San Siro two years ago.
However, a deal has not been agreed after Milan claimed Chelsea only wanted a permanent arrangement, rather than a loan with a view to buying.
Shevchenko was not involved in Scolari’s first game in charge against Portsmouth last week, but the Brazilian says the striker will have a role to play.
Scolari, though, admits the Ukrainian needs more confidence and hinted at the problems Shevchenko has faced in adapting to Premier League football.
Sheva needs time
“He is part of my plans, but you have to understand that when he played at Milan, he was with players with different characteristics,” said Scolari.
“Champions there are different than in England. We need to think about this balance.
“Maybe he needs more confidence, maybe more confidence with me. Maybe he needs more of the normal training he is having now. Maybe he needs more time.
“Now I have Anelka in a good situation. Sheva needs time and I need time.”
