The 24-year-old was recommended to Bruce by Arsene Wenger after the player had a trial with the Gunners. Bruce snapped him up on loan during his time as Birmingham manager last season, but Palacios moved to Wigan in January on a permanent deal, following Bruce who had taken charge at the JJB Stadium in November.

Since then, the Honduran international has shown class and potential, leading to interest from two of England’s ‘big four’; Liverpool and Manchester United.

Bruce has remained adamant that the player is not for sale, although conceded that every man has his price.

Bruce told Sky Sports: “Everybody has their price, it doesn’t matter who it is, we’ve got to be realistic enough to know that. However, it would take a hell of an offer at the moment to even tempt us because we’re into the season.”

“There are 10 days to go [until the transfer window closes] and we would struggle to get any replacement,” he continued.

“So the message is hands off, unless you’ve got a real lot of money!”

The central midfielder has played just 16 times for the Latics, and has already shown he is capable of dealing with the pace of the Premiership. Wigan fans will hope Bruce is able to hold onto the starlet for a few years to come.
