Chiellini out for Italy

Chiellini: Out injured

A knee injury has forced centre-back Giorgio Chiellini out of Italy’s midweek friendly international against Austria.

He sustained the knock in Juventus’ 4-1 defeat to AC Milan in the Berlusconi Trophy on Sunday, where he was stretchered off in the first half.

Juve said in a statement after the game that the player would not join up with Marcello Lippi’s squad for Wednesday’s game in Nice.

The friendly in the San Siro saw Milan go 3-0 up thanks to efforts by Marek Jankulovski, Massimo Ambrosini and Filippo Inzaghi before Cristian Pasquato netted for Juve.

But Ambrosini scored Milan’s fourth 11 minutes from time to finish off the game, which is played each year in honour of Luigi Berlusconi, father of Milan owner and Italian Prime Minister Silvio.

Before the match, Berlusconi had dismissed speculation that he had held a meeting with Chelsea counterpart Roman Abramovich over the sale of Brazilian playmaker Kaka.
