FC Bayern have reached the second round of the DFB Cup after a night full of drama and entertainment.
The defending champions beat Rot-Weiß Erfurt 4-3 away in front of 24,500 fans in the sold out Steigerwaldstadion.
RWE equalise three times
Philipp Lahm (6), Lukas Podolski (23) and Miroslav Klose (57) had given Bayern the lead three times.
But the third-flight hosts were not impressed and pulled level each time, with Massimo Cannizzaro (22) and substitute Albert Bunjaku (47, 67) on target.
Kroos winner
Toni Kroos scored what proved to be the winner ten minutes from time.
RWE again had the chance to reply, but Cannizzaro fired over from four metres when it seemed easier to score with one minute remaining.
