The Blucerchiati are in the hunt to find a decent striker who can play alongside Antonio Cassano next term as they continue to strengthen given their UEFA Cup and Scudetto hopes.

Reports in Italy have linked the Genoese club to the Ukrainian hit-man who has never managed to set the world on fire at Stamford Bridge.

Just days ago Cassano was quoted as saying ?Shevchenko will arrive,? and now it seems likely as Samp directors are preparing to make a bid for him.

Il Secolo XIX claims the Serie A club is ready to table a ?3m offer for Shevchenko with a view to taking him on-loan.

The Blues hit-man doesn?t seem like he will be Luis Felipe Scolari?s first choice next season, Sampdoria on the other hand would guarantee him first team football.

Doria president Beppe Marotta is a good friend of Shevchenko and he will be able to convince the player to leave London.

Reports suggest the Italian side want to take Sheva in a similar deal they struck with Real Madrid last year for Cassano.

The former Dynamo Kiev man played the best football of his career in Italy and he would be relishing a return.
