The season's first highlights
Jürgen Klinsmann against Martin Jol and FC Bayern against Hamburger SV: the 46th Bundesliga season will start with a real classic!

That was announced by the Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH two days after the EURO 2008 and 45 days ahead of kick-off on August 15th.

For Bayern, more top clashes follow soon. FCB will visit DFB Cup finalists Borussia Dortmund on matchday 2 and entertain Werder Bremen in round 5.

bundesliga.de has singled out the top clashes of the first ten rounds of the upcoming 2008/09 season.

Matchday 1

Bayern München - Hamburger SV

What a start! FC Bayern entertain Hamburger SV in the Allianz Arena, a real classic. HSV have an outstanding record in the new stadium, they haven't lost in Bayern's new home so far!

Matchday 2

Werder Bremen - Schalke 04

Schalke have something to make up for in this tie. Last season, Werder's 5-1 win in the corresponding fixture signalled the end of Mirko Slomka's reign at the “Royal Blues”.

Matchday 3

VfB Stuttgart - Hannover 96

VfB had little reason to smile against 96 last season. Hanover pulled off a 2-0 away win at the River Neckar, the return match failed to produce any goals.

Matchday 4

Borussia Dortmund - Schalke 04

The Ruhr derby will surely produce another heated clash between Black-Yellows and Blue-Whites. Schalke did the double over BVB last season, winning 4-1 and 3-2.

Matchday 5

FC Bayern - Werder Bremen

It's champions against runners-up in round 5. Last season Werder held Bayern to a 1-1 draw in Munich, but FCB had already won the first leg 4-0.

Matchday 6

Hertha BSC - Energie Cottbus

David against Goliath? No way! Energie have managed to win six out of their ten derby dates with Hertha since 2000. The corresponding fixture produced a goalless draw last season, with Energie winning the second leg 2-1.

Matchday 7

Borussia Mönchengladbach - 1. FC Köln

A pulsating derby is back in the Bundesliga! It's not only about points, but also about bragging rights at the River Rhine when these two teams meet. Last season's meetings in the 2. Bundesliga produced two draws - will there be a winner this time?

Matchday 8

Hamburger SV - Schalke 04

This match has already been played 80 times in Bundesliga history, with both sides winning 31 matches each. In Martin Jol and Fred Rutten, two newcomer coaches lock horns.

Matchday 9

Bayer Leverkusen - 1. FC Köln

Another Rhine derby in round 9 as Bayer host Cologne. Goalgetter Patrick Helmes joined Bayer after winning promotion with Cologne, who have a former Bayer employee in coach Christoph Daum.

Matchday 10

Eintracht Frankfurt - Bayern München

Eintracht held Bayern to a goalless draw in Munich last season, but lost 3-1 at home. Will there be goals this time around?
