Les Bleus crashed out of the Euros in the first round after finishing bottom of Group C, picking up just one point from their three games, and conceding six.
Current coach Raymond Domenech seems almost certain to resign or be sacked when the French Federation announces their findings into the debacle on July 3.
France legend and former Juventus and Monaco trainer Didier Deschamps was believed to be the favourite to succeed Domenech, however The Daily Star today says that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is the front-runner.
Wenger?s former Arsenal players Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira hold a great deal of power in the French dressing room, and they are believed to have told the federation that Wenger is the right man to take over at the helm.
Wenger has always stated that he would one day like to coach his country, and he could be tempted after seeing the Arsenal squad he assembled crumble before his eyes.
The 58-year-old is said to have lost heart with Mathieu Flamini leaving on a free transfer, and Aliaksandr Hleb and Emmanuel Adebayor soon set to follow him out of the exit door.
Wenger is also still unhappy about the sacking of close friend and Arsenal director David Dein last year, and after almost 12 years in North London, he believes this could be the right time to leave.
Indeed Wenger has already started to plan life away from Arsenal by becoming an adviser to Paris St Germain.
