Despite reports suggesting that Celtic were preparing a £5.5m plus Dianbobo Balde bid for Birmingham ace James McFadden, both clubs have moved to cool the transfer talk.

The 25-year-old Scotland striker joined Alex McLeish’s Blues from Everton in January for £5m and has been tipped to move on after his new club’s relegation from the Premier League.

However, City supremo David Gold said that Faddy is “not for sale”, adding: “We want to keep our best players to help us get back to the Premier League as quickly as possible.”

Now, BBC Scotland have reported that Celtic Park sources have distanced themselves from the rumours.

However, McLeish has been strongly linked with the Hoops’ out-of-favour Guinea international Bobo Balde since the end of the season.

Gordon Strachan is likely to offload the 32-year-old stopper and his sizable wage bill in order to fund new signings as he looks to strengthen is SPL champions.

Meanwhile, Birmingham are set to be pipped by Russian Premier League club Krylia Sovetov Samara to the signature of outgoing Nuremberg and Czech Republic veteran Jan Koller.
