Manchester City want to have next season’s squad planned by June 15th, including the fate of Sven-Göran Eriksson and the signing of Ronaldinho…
As reported earlier, according to Pairoj Piempongsant, a Thai businessman involved in City’s signings, the Manchester-based club will decide on the future of the Swedish tactician in just two weeks’ time.
Although Eriksson has been linked with the managerial role of the Mexican national squad, he is still under a contract with The Blues and will have to wait to be axed by Thaksin Shinawatra before taking on a new challenge.
“Negotiations must be complete by June 15, which include the team manager,” Piempongsant told Thai newspaper Thansettakij.
However, this also holds special significance for Ronaldinho, whose representative recently met with Piempongsant.
Shinawatra, who is reported to be undertaking a “technical review” of the club, has urged Ronaldinho to give his final answer on his future in two weeks, and Piempongsant made that perfectly clear with his comments today.
Piempongsant is understood to have had a meeting in Bangkok last week with Ronaldinho’s brother and agent, Roberto Assis, in which they discussed the possibility of the Brazilian moving to the Premier League.
“I explained him that we know all his potential, his characteristics and that we believe he is the best player in the world,” he said.
“There are several clubs, all bigger than Manchester City, that are after him. He does not have anything left to win, he looks like a teenager that is bored and always wants new challenges.”
Ronaldinho has been confirmed as one of the players that will leave Barcelona in the summer, with president Joan Laporta stating that the two-times FIFA World Player of the Year needs a new challenge to kick-start his career.
