Ranieri: Possible Alonso interest
Juventus manager Claudio Ranieri believes Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard would succeed in any potential Italian Job.
Despite Lampard announcing that he is set to reopen contract negotiations with Chelsea in the summer, there has been strong speculation that the England international is set for a move to Internazionale.
And former Chelsea boss Ranieri - who was responsible for the £11million signing of Lampard from West Ham in 2001 - has backed the 29-year-old to become a star in Serie A, if he decides to move abroad.
“I don’t know if Frank Lampard will stay,” said Ranieri.
Summer swoop
“But I think players like Frank Lampard can have success in every country.”
Meanwhile, Ranieri has refused to confirm or deny rumours linking him with a summer swoop for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish star has seen his future at Anfield thrown into doubt as Liverpool chase £12m-rated Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry.
Ranieri is understood to be monitoring Alonso’s situation on Merseyside, but the Juventus boss has declined to admit an interest in the 27-year-old.
“I don’t know,” added Ranieri when asked about the availability of Alonso. “If you tell me something, I can believe it.”
