Rest and recuperation are top of the agenda for FC Bayern on the second stop in their nine-day tour of Asia - in Bali.
The Bayern players will not forget in a hurry the scenes that followed their 5-1 victory over Indonesia in Jakarta on Wednesday. Enthusiastic local fans stormed the pitch when the final whistle blew in the Gelora Bung Karno stadium, trying to get an autograph or at least shake the hand of one of the visiting players.
Enthusiastic send-off
The team coach eventually exited the stadium at walking pace, mobbed by thousands of happy fans out for a bit of a party.
The send-off was perhaps the high point of FC Bayern's two-day stop in the Indonesian capital. “It's been a fantastic trip so far. The organisation has been excellent”, Ottmar Hitzfeld said in summary of the first leg of the german champions' nine-day tour of Asia, adding: “It's impressive to see how popular FC Bayern are here.”
Next stop Bali
Players and officals have a couple more days to enjoy Indonesian hospitality - with the emphasis on enjoyment. On Thursday morning (local time) the Bayern convoy set off for Bali, 2,000 kilometres further east, where they will stay until Sunday. “Bali is for recuperation. We'll be enjoying a bit of a break and playing some golf”, Hitzfeld said.
