Good start for Bayern
Jan Schlaudraff ensures that Bayern maintains its winning ways as the German champions opened their tour of the Far East. His hat-trick was the highlight of a 5-1 win over the Indonesian national side.

With 70,000 soccer fans packing the Gelora Bung Karno stadium, Breno put the German club into the lead after 21 minutes. Two minutes later, Schlaudraff scored his first and then his second to give the Germans a 3-0 half time lead.

The Indonesians pulled one back through Bambang Pamungkas (61.), but Schlaudraff (83.) and Toni Kroos (88.) sealed the game for Bayern.

Hot and sticky

In addition to the scorers, Bayern fielded Oliver Kahn, Michael Rensing, Andreas Ottl, Ze Roberto, Mark van Bommel and Jose Sosa along with seven youngsters.

The Germans were still feeling the effects of a 15 hour hourney and the five-hour time difference. Temperatures of 30 degrees and more than 90 per cent humidity added to the effects of the journey.

“Happy to be here”

After the final whistle, Bayern manager Uli Hoeneß spoke off the “unbelievable atmosphere in the ground” and praised the players' performances. “Given the tiring journey and the change of climate, the players really gave it their all.”

Even so, Hoeneß said the club was happy to be in Indonesia. The club wanted to put on a good show for itself and for the Bundesliga, he said.

The game was the first of two friendlies planned for the trip. Next Tuesday coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, who is leaving the club, puts out a squad to play Asia's oldest football club: Mohun Bagan AC of Kolkata, India.(14.30 CET).

FC Bayern: Kahn (46. Rensing) - Schlottner, Ottl, Breno, Contento - Zé Roberto, (90. Kuru) Van Bommel - Sosa (78. Simari), Kroos, Bopp (90. Pizarro) - Schlaudraff (90. Rohracker)

Goals: 0:1 Breno (21.), 0:2 Schlaudraff (23.), 0:3 Schlaudraff (34.), 1:3 Pamungkas (61.), 1:4 Schlaudraff (83.), 1:5 Kroos (88.)
