Juventus are looking to Aston Villa’s Thomas Sorensen as an understudy to Gian Luigi Buffon according to Tuttosport.

The Bianconeri are currently in the process of reinforcing their squad as they try and string together a more competitive side in light of next season’s big commitment in the Champions League.

Juve would need a top-quality goalkeeper with plenty of experience to be Buffon’s number two as their current second choice Emanuele Bellardi is not considered experienced enough at top level.

The Bianconeri were initially after Middlesbrough’s Austrailian shot stopper Mark Schwarzer but it now seems as if the Old Lady is turning her attention to Aston Villa’s second choice custodian Thomas Sorensen.

The Villa ‘Keeper is out of contract in the summer and he has lost his first team place to Scott Carson. Tuttosport claims that the Scandinavian will be joining his Villa team mate Olof Mellberg in Turin. Juve chief Giovanni Cobbolli Gigli has recently stated that his club would be bringing in some big name players in order to mount a serious title assault next season, however the president was reluctant to name who exactly would be coming in.

Buffon did miss a large part of the season because of an on-going back problem and thus the Bianconeri would need to be prepared for every eventuality should the Italy number 1 be unavailable next season.
