Inter into Coppa Italia final

Cruz: Clinching goal

Internazionale booked their place in the final of the Coppa Italia with a 2-0 victory over Lazio.

Roberto Mancini’s side were held to a 0-0 draw at Giuseppe Meazza in the first leg three weeks ago, but progressed to the final despite fielding a much-changed side.

The Serie A champions and league leaders went ahead in the 52nd minute with a goal from young midfielder Vitor Pele.

Experienced defender Marco Materazzi came off the bench only to be dismissed in the closing stages after kicking out at Goran Pandev.

But with Lazio pushing forward for an equaliser, Pele turned provider as he set up Argentinian Julio Cruz for the clinching goal five minutes from time.

Inter will now face either Roma or Catania in the final, with Luciano Spalletti’s side leading 1-0 from the first leg.
