West Ham ended their season with a 2-2 home draw against Aston Villa, with boss Alan Curbishley looking forward to playing the transfer market in the summer…
“I’ve said all along how well my players have done,” Curbishley insisted. “We let ourselves down in a couple of games but in the main we have done well despite having to contend with a lot of problems.

“Every club has its problem over sides wanting to buy their players,” he continued, hinting at Dean Ashton’s possible exit, “Look at Tottenham.

“Fans saw last summer that we had players coming in rather than leaving. We’re hoping to build on that, I’m not under pressure to cut costs.”

The Hammers secured a top-half finish in tenth by holding Villa - surely respectable considering the season-long injury woes at Upton Park.
