Berlusconi: Forced to leave post
Silvio Berlusconi has resigned as Milan president with immediate effect.
Berlusconi has been sworn in as Italy’s prime minister and so had to leave his post with the Rossoneri.
A law designed to address conflicts of interest of politicians requires Berlusconi to stand down, although the billionaire does not have to sell the club.
Berlusconi made the announcement in a short letter posted on the club’s official website.
He already resigned once as Milan president during a previous stint as prime minister and then took back his position at the team when his term ended.
It is expected that Berlusconi will hand over the reins to current vice-president Adriano Galliani.
