Former England boss Steve McClaren has admitted to becoming restless after having been reduced to a spectator’s role since November.
McClaren joined the ranks of the unemployed fter being sacked by The FA as a result of England’s catastrophic failure to qualify for Euro 2008. After having had ample time to both reflect and digest, the former Middlesbrough manager is now “itching” to get back into the game.

“I’m just waiting for a phone call. I’m itching to get back into the game in whatever capacity and whatever challenge,” said McClaren.

“I’m fascinated by what’s happening, not just in the Premier League, but in the Championship and all the divisions. It’s an exciting time for all the clubs.

“It’s great to watch on the outside, but I’m itching to get back in. There’s nothing like being involved.”

Last month, McClaren emerged as an unlikely candidate to take over the reigns at Inter should Robert Mancini be relieved of his duties, but the rumour mill has since moved on to other coaches.
