Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones insist that, despite securing safety, the Black Cats are yet to get the cream…

Sunderland?s thrilling 3-2 win over Middlesbrough on Sunday typified their plucky season.

Daryl Murphy headed home the winner at the death ? the umpteenth time Roy Keane?s side has turned a game on its head in the closing stages this term.

Thus, the Stadium of Light will be treated to at least another season of Premier League action.

However, Trinidadian forward Kenwyne Jones insists that the Black Cats still have much work to do and must continue to improve.

?We all still have to prove ourselves,? the 23-year-old told the Sunderland Echo.

?Everyone needs to stake their claim to be here and have another shot at The Premier League again.

?There’s no fear of our minds being on the beach in the last two games.

?Do you think the manager would allow that? I don’t think so. We’ve worked hard as a squad to achieve our aim of keeping this club in the Premier League and the last thing the manager will want to see is a sloppy attitude in the last couple of games.

?People will still be paying to watch us and we’ll still be getting paid to perform, so we have to go out there and do things right.?

Glue

Sunderland take on still-struggling Bolton at the weekend and Jones has confirmed that he should recover from a gashed eye suffered against Boro in order to feature.

?I knew straight away that it had opened up, but it’s happened before and will happen again,? he conceded.

?The doc and physios did a great job on the pitch patching me up. They glued it back together straight away and there was no need for stitches. I’ll be fine for Bolton.?

As for the bigger picture, Jones ? a summer signing from Southampton ? hopes he and Sunderland can develop into real Premiership forces.

?You can see this is a club that can go places; that’s why we all came,? he continued.

?There have been some bad results along the way and we have had a lot of injuries, but we have learned from our setbacks and after everything that’s happened I think we deserve to be in the Premier League challenging again and trying to get better.?
