Bayern were held by St. Peterburg in the first leg of the UEFA Cup semi-final. Marcell Jansen talks to bundesliga.de about the 1-1 draw.

bundesliga.de: Is the 1-1 draw a fair result?

Marcell Jansen: No, I don't think so. We had the better chances and should have made it 2-0 before they equalised. But these things happen. We did well to create these opportunities, but we were a bit unlucky in front of goal.

bundesliga.de: That sounds like you're still optimistic for the second leg…

Jansen: Of course! An away match may be more difficult, but we have often proved that we can score on the road, so I'm looking forward to that match.

bundesliga.de: FC Bayern dominated the first 30 minutes. How do you explain the weaker performance after the break?

Jansen: It partly depends on power, we have played quite a lot of matches this season. But even in these spells we created many chances, for example through Lucio and Lucas Podolski. St. Petersburg could have had no complaints if we had run out 2-1 or 3-1 winners.

bundesliga.de: In the first half you had some - cautiously worded - gesticulated exchanges of opinions with Franck Ribery on the left. What was that about?

Jansen: (laughs) Well, we have to communicate somehow, even if his German is improving. It was mostly about tactical things, arrangements and tips to know what the other does when they attack. That was it.

bundesliga.de: Where you satisfied with your own performance?

Jansen: First of all I was glad to be given green light after struggling with muscular problems. I wasn't able to train for a week after the Getafe match, but I felt okay today regarding energy. We played well at the back and showed some good approaches up front. For me that mostly narrows down to initiating attacks. Overall I'm satisfied with my performance, but I have to stay in the rhythm now.
