Mexes to shun Milan interest

Mexes: Happy at Roma

Philippe Mexes has pledged his future to Roma despite interest from Milan.

The classy French stopper is believed to have a release clause in his contract of just £11million - which Milan were seriously looking at.

The Rossoneri are reported to be looking for a new central defensive partner for Alessandro Nesta and Mexes is high on their list of targets.

However, the 25-year-old former Auxerre ace insists he is more than happy with life in the Eternal City.

“I am happy with Milan’s interest but I have a contract and no intention to go anywhere,” said Mexes.

“All the Romans want me and my contract is with the Giallorossi.

“At the moment I am happy here and we will continue together.”

Mexes confirmed there was a clause in his contract but he insisted he did not want to use it.

“This is a normal clause. I had it in my contract before the renewal, it’s an insurance that I do not wish to use,” he said.

“I know what I want. I will stay at the Olimpico because I extended my contract 12 months ago and I feel really good here.”

Frey

Another player strongly linked with Milan is Mexes fellow Frenchman Fiorentina keeper Sebastien Frey.

The highly-rated custodian has been in great form this season but he seems set to move on.

Frey’s agent confirmed that Viola are looking for replacements suggesting Frey was on his way - with Milan favourites for his signature.

“We have not received any proposals for Frey, nor have we any stipulation to sell the player,” said Frey’s agent Giovanni Branchini.

“In any case, we are at issue with Fiorentina for investing resources into other goalkeepers.”
