Bolton boss Gary Megson was a shade disappointed that his side couldn?t manage to cling to their slender lead against Tottenham, but hailed his team?s recent away form that has left them with a good chance of staying in the Premier League.
A win at Middlesbrough two weeks ago and a draw today at Tottenham have seen Bolton pick up four points from their last two away outings. Combined with the home win over West Ham United, their recent run of consistency has left them a point clear of the relegation zone.
Describing this afternoon?s encounter as difficult, Megson hailed his players and expects them to dig in together to ensure the survival of the club in England?s top flight.
A poor first half showing today no doubt left the players privy to the hairdryer treatment at half-time and the Trotters reaped an immediate reward with Stelios scoring with his first touch of the second half.
Megson hailed the spirit and resolve of his side as well as paying tribute to his side?s travelling supporters. He insisted that the team and supporters are united in their quest to stay afloat.
He told the club?s website: “It was our second away game on the trot and we’ve taken four points out of six. Tottenham is a very difficult place to come as they are a quality side.
“Spurs were passing the ball around and we were poor in the first half
“But immediately after the restart Stelios got us a decent goal, but I was disappointed that we couldn’t hang onto it.
“We have set ourselves up for the massive game against Sunderland next week. We’ve really got to get after it at home and try and get a good result.
“The support was again fantastic today as it was against Boro last weekend. We are all in it together.”
