Schwarzer set to leave Boro

Middlesbrough say they have no plans to talk with goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer until the end of the season.

The 35-year-old Australian has spent the last 11 years at The Riverside Stadium - but he is now seemingly set to move on.

Boro are not prepared to offer Schwarzer more than a year’s contract and the two sides have not talked terms for sometime.

In the mean time Schwarzer - who wants at least a two-year deal to take him through to the 2010 World Cup - has been able to talk terms with other clubs.

A move to the Bundesliga has always appealed to the German-speaking Schwarzer and Bayern Munich are understood to have a long-standing interest.

Italians Juventus and Fiorentina have also been linked, whilst Celtic are also thought to be keeping tabs on Schwarzer’s situation.

No talks

Despite the interest, Boro are seemingly more than happy with the situation and chief executive Keith Lamb says there are no plans to open talks now.

“Mark Schwarzer and the club agreed some time ago that there would be no discussions with regard to his contract until the season is over,” he said.

“That remains the case.”

Boro are believed to be considering a move for Tottenham’s Paul Robinson as a possible replacement - although Gareth Southgate is seriously considering letting youth products Brad Jones and Ross Turnbull fight it out for the number one jersey.
