Mönchengladbach travel to the USA
The DFL continues to intensify the Bundesliga’s strategical marketing abroad with an on-site presence of yet another club.

Borussia Mönchengladbach will go through a ten-day training camp in the USA in the summer and advertise the Bundesliga in doing so. The appearance of the current 2. Bundesliga leaders is supported by the DFL and its cooperation partner Major League Soccer (MLS). The training camp will take place in Denver Colorado between July 13 and 23. Test matches against MLS clubs are scheduled, too.

“Bundesliga has built up a reputation”

“I think it’s brilliant that Borussia Mönchengladbach carry through a complete summer training camp in the USA. That serves the Bundesliga just as the Borussia brand. Not for nothing Chelsea FC have already trained in the USA a number of times”, declares Christian Seifert, DFL Chief Executive Officer.

“Football is becoming increasingly popular in the USA and has considerably made up ground compared to the traditionally popular sports baseball, American football and basketball. Nationwide live coverages have helped the Bundesliga to build up a reputation in North America, too”, Seifert says.

The five-times German champions are looking forward to the USA trip, too: “Borussia Mönchengladbach have many fans abroad, too, and especially in North America, therefore we are delighted to be allowed to represent German football in the USA at the DFL’s and the MLS’s invitation”, says Borussia Mönchengladbach Club secretary Stephan Schippers.
