Newcastle midfielder Geremi has revealed that he would like nothing better than to score the winning goal in this weekend?s North East derby, and repeat something he achieved five years ago for Middlesbrough.
On that occasion, Newcastle were the opposition, but the Cameroonian insists that this time round he would love if Roy Keane?s Sunderland were on the receiving end. He told the Evening Chronicle: ?I can remember that header very well, but I am a Newcastle player now and I would love to do the same against Sunderland.?
The ex-Chelsea man has experience of derby matches at the very highest level, after a stint at Real Madrid earlier in his career.
Geremi is acutely aware that his side will be looking to salvage some parochial pride on Sunday after an another underwhelming campaign.
He understands the demands that the Geordie faithful have placed on his side?s shoulders ahead of the derby match. With Middlesbrough and Sunderland immediately below Newcastle in the table, Kevin Keegan?s team will be looking to extend their three-point lead over their North East rivals. He said: ?The derby game is something special, and I know what it means for the fans.?
An upturn in results of latemeans that Newcastle go into the clash as favourites and hope that their recent free-scoring form can be maintained at St. James?s Park on Sunday.
