Luca Toni has been on fire for Bayern this season. The only thing he feels he needs is an Italian team-mate at the league leaders!
Luca Toni is a 2006 World Cup winner and “Mr. Reliable” when it comes to finding the back of the net. He’s already netted 18 Bundesliga goals in his first season in Germany, and as he says himself, he feels right at home in Munich. But he would like to play alongside another Italian!
“I would like to have a compatriot in the squad”, Toni revealed in an interview with Italian sports magazine “Tuttosport”. “I have signalled to the club that I would like that, and we’ll see what happens”.
“I live to score goals, you could say that is my daily bread and my life. I’m experiencing a fantastic and magical season. I couldn’t expect any more”, he explained further.
“Why should I leave Bayern?”
Toni, who transferred to Bayern from AC Florence last summer, has bagged 18 goals in just 26 league appearances, and he feels at ease in Munich. “In the stadium, they even play Gianna Nannini’s big hit “Bello e impossible” when I score a goal. I live in the city centre, and it is a fantastic city”, Toni said of the Bavarian capital.
“The city is safe and clean, unlike in Italy. The people are friendly and at the same time show a lot of respect when they want a photo taken with me or an autograph. We’ll be back in the Champions League next season. I don’t see why I would want to leave here.”
Language barrier
Luca Toni sees just one drawback with playing in Germany, and that is the language barrier. “I’m taking German lessons with my team-mates Franck Robéry and Sosa. It’s a lot of fun. The teacher explains something to us and we have to repeat what he has said in our own way. I do it in an Italian accent, Ribéry in a French accent and Sosa with an Argentinian accent. We have a lot of laughs, but at the end of the day, we don’t learn all that much!”
