VfB midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger had to be substituted 15 minutes into Stuttgart’s 3-0 defeat in Leverkusen.
The 26-year-old got caught in Gonzalo Castro’s studs and suffered a deep flesh wound.
Twelve stitches
He was taken to hospital immediately, the wound requiring twelve stitches.
The left-footed German international definitely won’t feature in Stuttgart’s home clash with Nuremberg on Wednesday, but he may be available for VfB’s away match at FC Bayern later this month.
