Two late goals by Luca Toni saved Bayern München from a debacle in the UEFA Cup. The Italian player secured the tie against FC Getafe. The scoring superstar kept Bayern alive with his two scores in the 115th and 120th minute to make the end result 3-3 (1-1, 0-0) in extra time against the Spanish club FC Getafe.
The nail-biting draw that went to the 114th minute in extra time places a lucky Bayern in the semi-final in the UEFA-Cup. The top Bundesliga club now face the Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg, who eliminated Bayer Leverkusen in the quarter finals.
Ribery puts the match into extra time
After 90 minutes, the match was deadlocked at 1-1, the same result as in the first leg encounter. Bayern have Franck Ribery to thank for ensuring the game didn’t end at the 90 minute mark.
The French player scored late (89th minute), forcing the match into extra time and equalising the score of Romanian international player Cosmin Contra (44th min.), which had put Getafe in the lead. In overtime, Casquero (91th min.) and Braulio (93rd min.) extended the Spaniard’s lead to 3-1, all the more astounding since a red carded Ruben de la Red meant Getafe had to play from the 6th minute on in the sold-out Coliseum Alfonso Perez with only ten men.
