Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has praised David James for being a “special” goalkeeper, stating that his touch of magic is akin to that of Cristiano Ronaldo…
Some criticised James for his performance midweek against France for the English national side, but Redknapp moved to defend the former Liverpool stopper.
He told the media, “The England thing was difficult. He was caught in no man’s land and it was virtually a collision between him and Nicolas Anelka.
“But I don’t believe it has upset him. He just moves on now.”
Indeed, the manager went on to praise James for having a special touch in the goalkeeping world.
“James is fantastic,” he continued in the wake of his side’s 2-0 win over Wigan in which the ‘keeper saved a penalty.
“Without a top, top keeper you are nothing and he’s the best one around at the moment.
“For me he’s the [Cristiano] Ronaldo of goalkeepers, someone who does that little bit special.”
James, 37, arrived at Pompey in 2006 after two seasons at Manchester City.
