Blackburn manager Mark Hughes criticised the performance shown by his charges after they were held to a goalless draw by Reading at the Madejski Stadium.
Blackburn struggled upfront throughout the match and chances were far and few between in the first half for the visitors.

Their best chance in the first half came from striker Jason Roberts, when he dribbled from inside his own half, only to be brought down by Reading’s Marek Matejovsky 25 yards from goal.

Blackburn gained the numerical advantage in the second 45 minutes after Matejovsky was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

And, Rovers boss Mark Hughes reshuffled his side to play five up front. His strikers, however, failed to find a way past Reading goalkeeper Marcus Hahneman.

Hughes expressed his disappointment over his players’ tepid display, describing his team as “flat” and lacking “spark”.

“When Reading had a men sent off, we should have taken advantage of it. But we did not and it was disappointing,” he told BBC Sport.

“We were flat and looked tired because of the international week. However, that’s no excuse for our poor performance because we had many opportunities to score.”

The former Wales boss insisted it was crucial for his side to keep winning matches in order for Blackburn to finish their season on a high.

“At this point of the season, every team are focused on getting victories. Likewise, we should do the same to maintain our European aspirations, and drawing games is definitely not ideal for us,” warned Hughes.
