Arsenal are still on a high following their epic victory in Milano on Tuesday, but Arsene Wenger has warned that they cannot afford to have their heads in the clouds for the comparatively unfashionable trip to take on Wigan this weekend.
Although the JJB Stadium and the San Siro must seem like galaxies away in terms of international prestige, the French tactician has been to stress to his players that Sunday’s match could prove just as testing in its own unique way.

“To be champions in England you have to go from Milan to Wigan and win the game and I like that because it is a completely different type of game. You have to find a response to what you face,” said Wenger, who is known to have a big interest in military strategy outside of football.

“It will be a big test because they (Wigan) are playing not to go down. They are under pressure like we are at the top. They are under pressure not to go down and I have heard that the pitch is not the Emirates.”

A win for the Gunners on Sunday will see them extend their lead over Manchester United, who are in FA Cup action against Portsmouth this weekend.
